United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc is a significant player in the Nigerian banking sector with operations in 19 African countries and been in operation since 1949. In 2005, it merged with Standard Trust Bank (STB) which was one of the largest mergers in Nigeria’s history.

It is worth noting that although these may seem like lofty goals, UBA has a strong tradition of success from it was the first among international banks to be registered under Nigerian Law in 1961, the first Nigerian bank to offer an IPO following its listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 1970 and the First bank in Nigeria to institute a foundation – UBA Foundation; the Corporate Social Responsibility arm or the first to launch cash deposit ATM’s in Nigeria.
